Types of Errors in Measurement
- Gross Errors
Gross errors occur in measurement due to human mistakes. There are different causes of gross errors like using wrong instruments, faulty setting and arrangement of instrument, mistake while taking reading or recording observations, etc... These errors can be avoided by using appropriate instrument, by taking number of readings at different times, etc…
- Systematic Errors
Systematic error is a type of measurement errors. Systematic error is controllable error and hence it is also known as controllable error. These errors have definite magnitude and these are repeated while taking readings. These errors cannot detect by taking multiple reading because they are repeated every time. These types of error are detected by attempting as a analyse purpose. After detecting errors these errors are resolve according to type of error, like if error detect in calibration of instrument then again calibrate this instrument by proper or accurate process. - Random Errors
Random errors are accidental errors that often vary in magnitude and direction. There are different causes of random errors like vibrations, stickiness and roughness of surfaces, variation in supply power, elastic deformation of parts, etc…
